Thank you for following and staying engaged with what’s happening in Sunnyside.
After a recent community planning meeting, a small group of Sunnyside residents formed a volunteer committee to help organize feedback and communicate concerns about the bike lanes on 2nd and 7th Avenue.
Many residents support safer cycling infrastructure and traffic calming measures. However, several concerns have emerged about the current design and how it is affecting daily life in the neighbourhood.
The most common issues raised include:
• Significant loss of on-street parking
• Accessibility challenges for seniors and people with mobility limitations
• Winter snow clearing and safety concerns
• Questions about traffic safety and street functionality
• Frustration with the consultation process and lack of clear data
• Concerns about long-term neighbourhood liveability as density increases
The goal of this committee is to ensure that the impacts on residents are acknowledged and addressed, particularly regarding the use of concrete barriers that may affect accessibility.
Moving forward, we hope to:
• Collect and document resident experiences
• Share concerns with City officials
• Request greater transparency around project data and costs
• Advocate for design adjustments that better balance the needs of cyclists, residents, and the community.
This page will share updates, information, and opportunities for residents to stay involved.
